McHugh Natatorium Closures and Updates
Beginning March 16 the pool will be closed on Saturdays due to a shortage in lifeguard staff. Once additional staff are hired the pool will return to normal hours of operation. If you are interested in working as a lifeguard for Campus Recreation apply online today HERE.
Beginning March 21 there will be a new operational policy regarding open swim lanes during open recreation. In striving to provide increased safety for swimmers and maintain the Department of Health regulations on lifeguard to swimmer ratios, we are reducing the area being supervised by each lifeguard by having some lanes noted as ‘Closed’ for short periods of time. Through this, we will be able to accommodate more rotational breaks for lifeguards to reduce fatigue and increase focus and attention while on watch. We will reduce the number of open swim lanes to five (5) lanes until the number of open recreation swimmers reaches ten (10) and then we will open the additional three lanes. Lanes 1-5, closest to the Sundeck will always be open as it includes the ADA pool chair lift and ADA stairs. Lanes 6-8 will have signage noting ‘Lane Closed.’ Once there are ten (10) swimmers, roughly two (2) per lane, the second lifeguard on shift will also go on watch so that the other three lanes may open. When our open recreation swimmers decrease, the lifeguards will then decrease the lanes open so that one guard may be rotated off watch. We ask that when you come to swim and there is a lane open in 1-5, please use that lane prior to 6-8. Please contact Haley Cox, email@example.com if you have questions or concerns on this new operational policy.
Mondays-Thursdays from March 4-28: Pool lanes 5-8 are reserved from 8-9:30 p.m. for weekly club sports programming. Open recreation will be available in pool lanes 1-4.
March 18-20: The entire natatorium, including the pool, sauna, and steam room will be closed to replace the HVAC system.

Despite the loss of the barn, the CORE program is moving forward with strength and purpose. We have been busy purchasing new equipment to keep our trip programs and rental offerings as similar as possible to what was offered previously. The trips that were on the semester schedule are all still going to run as planned. For rental equipment, our boat fleet is currently ready for use and our camping equipment offerings are growing weekly. The CORE Office is still located in the same building, and you can drop by anytime during our open hours.
In other exciting news, the foundation was recently laid for our new Outdoor Recreation and Education Center. If you have been out to the Snow Property recently, you will have seen the ongoing construction already. We are extremely excited to see the progress on our new home and cannot wait for it to completed in several months.
Find your next adventure on our spring semester calendar!
We have a bunch of different adventure trips that will be coming up during the spring semester. Opportunities range from relaxing day hikes to some of our local waterfalls to amazing weekend backpacking trips and everything in between. Visit our online semester calendar for more information! All of our trips are beginner friendly, and we can provide everything you need to participate.

The Wilderness Instruction and Leadership Development Progroam (WILD)
The WILD program at CORE empowers and equips Clemson students to take on leadership roles in both the outdoor recreation field and in their community. The experiential nature of outdoor adventure provides the perfect context for students to learn, implement, and refine transferable skills such as program planning, group management, facilitation, self-awareness, creativity, and problem solving in addition to developing their technical outdoor skills in areas such as backpacking, rafting, rock climbing, skiing, and mountain biking.
The courses offered through the Wilderness Instruction and Leadership Development program are open to all Clemson students. Students who wish to participate in these courses can register for an individual WILD course at any time. Registration for WILD courses operates the same way as for regular CORE trips. This is a great option for students who want to explore outdoor leadership in general, work on a specific technical outdoor skill, or who wish to learn more about working at CORE without having to fully commit to the program.
CORE Winter Weekend Hours
CORE will continue to be closed on weekends until April 1. Weekday hours will remain the same.
